2004/05. Tom has been working on a recording with Cajun recording artist and historian, Ann Savoy, Kevin Wimmer and The Red Stick Ramblers in Eunice, Louisiana.

March 2003. Tom Mitchell was awarded the first annual "Musician to Musician" Grant given by Annapolis Maryland based non-profit organization, Chamber Music Annapolis. With this grant, Tom was able to go to Holland to study with master Gypsy guitarist, Fapy Lafertin. Tom said about the experience: "I could never have afforded to follow my passion on my own. Gypsy Jazz has been a huge influence on my playing and I never dreamed that I would actually have the opportunity to go and study with a master like Fapy Lafertin. "To be able to go where the music I love comes from, and to meet and play with the people who are keeping it alive, was truly a life changing experience."
