About Maureen

Maureen Berry's extensive dance training ranges from modern, ballet, tap & jazz to traditional Appalachian clogging and Irish stepdance. She received her TCRG certification in Irish step dancing in 2001. With this unusual combination of talents, she is in high demand as both a teacher and a performer.

Maureen is currently a part-time principal dancer and soloist with the internationally-acclaimed
Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble. She joined Footworks in 1997 after receiving her BFA degree in Dance Performance from Towson University in Maryland. Under the direction of NEA Choreography Fellow Eileen Carson. Footworks tours nationally and internationally with their theatre show Incredible Feets.

Maureen was a principal choreographer and Assistant Artistic Director for two of Footworks' major collaborative dance productions: SoleMates, with Washington DC's
StepAfrika!, and The Crossing, with Grammy-nominated recording artist Tim O'Brien. To find out more about Footworks' shows & for a tour schedule, see the Footworks web site at www.footworks.org.

In addition to her work with Footworks, Maureen appeared as a featured soloist with many top traditional Irish bands inclucing, the
John Whelan Band, Eileen Ivers, Gailec Storm, and Lunasa. These are some of the top traditional Irish bands on the World Music chart to date. Since she was a teenager, Maureen has participated in Irish stepdance competitions on the national level and traveled to Ireland for the World Championships (for her accordion playing as well as stepdance!).

Maureen has also traveled to South Africa with the StepAfrika! Cultural Exchange project where she taught Irish stepdance and learned traditional African dances as a part of an exchange between young American artists and dancers in Soweto, South Africa.

While not performing, Maureen offers lessons in Irish stepdance, clogging, jazz & more in Baltimore, Howard, Anne Arundel & Montgomery Counties. She is the owner/director of the Teelin School of Irish Dance. Maureen is available for private lesssons, master classes and choreography. She has been the director of the
Teelin Irish Dance Company since 1997.

If you're lucky, you can catch Maureen playing accordion and drum with her father's traditional ceili band, the Melody Aces in the Tri-State area.
