Road
Management
Mark has acted as Road Manager for a number of different
groups that he has performed with. This includes Tony Rice, Tim
O'Brien (Fall, '01 Crossing Tour), Footworks, and his own band,
Mark Schatz & Friends. This is a service that Mark can offer
as part of his participation in a tour. His experience includes
the following:
1) Interface with artist, agent, presenter, and artist Tech Director
2) Review contract and rider to be familiar with details of the
presentation
3) Advance the show, which includes the following:
-
Contact presenter and confirm terms of contract
- Arrange all travel (book air travel, rents vehicles, etc),
book hotels
- Get directions to venue, to hotel, etc
- Set up sched with presenter including group arrival at venue,
rehearsal time
and space if needed, sound check time, meal time, show time
- Give venue tech contact to group Tech Director and work with
both to set up
tech schedule
4) Print and distribute itinerary with all travel, hotel, schedule,
and venue info
5) If there are any contract issues with presenter, contact agent
to resolve.
6) On the road responsibilities:
-
expedite travel: oversee check-in at airports, oversee packing
of vans or bus
- communicate clearly to group what the schedule/plan is; make
sure
everyone makes it to where they need to be.
- check into and out of hotels, provide rooming list for everyone
- If bus tour, help find parking area at venue and/or hotel,
arrange for runner
for driver to get to and from hotel, determine drive times,
arrival and
departure times with driver, distribute cash to driver for fuel,
tolls, cleaning,
etc.
- interface with stage manager, presenter; make sure contracted
items
profided (dress rooms, irons, costume racks, place to sell merch,
meals, tech
requirements, etc)
- compile comp ticket list and give to appropriate party at
venue
7) Keep record of all tour finances and present summary to artist
or group management at end of tour.
