MARK SCHATZ SOLO
ALBUMS

RELEASED APRIL '06: Steppin' in the Boilerhouse

A lot of you may be wondering where my new CD got to after all of
the noise I was making about it a couple of years ago. I must extend
sincere apologies for dragging my feet on its release. To be honest,
when I got the call to go and play with Nickel Creek in the spring
of ’03 my energies got seriously diverted back into being
a bass player again. And their material demanded some serious attention.
I am pleased to say that the record has just been relesed on Rounder Records this spring!
ABOUT THE ALBUM
It's called Steppin' in the Boilerhouse, and it features an awesome band including Missy Raines,
Casey Driessen, and Jim Hurst. Special
guests include Tim O'Brien and Stuart Duncan on three numbers (including twin fiddles with Casey on one), Jerry
Douglas on two, and a cameo by co-producer, Bela
Fleck, who plays mandolin on Eileen's Waltz.
Those of you who have heard the band will recognize the following
tunes that are included on the new project:
Rig Root, The Falling Waters of Arden, Cajun Stomp, Eileen's
Waltz, Last Old Dollar, Season of Joy, Lennie's Misfortune, Boiler
House, Calgary, Robindale/Slate, The Devil's Game, Chelsea Town,
Stay All Night, Black Mountain Aire
There are a few surprises, including a vocal duet between
Tim and I, and I get a chance to exercise some of my colorful skills
including hambone & clogging.
The recording was done at Brent Truitt's studio in East
Nashville and we cut tracks in Dec '02 and Jan '03. (I caught Brent
just before he went out on the road with The Dixie Chicks!). Bela
took the tracks and did some editing and we mixed in the first part
of March (well, mostly he mixed and I sat back and marvelled at
how sharp his ears are and how quick he is with the computer editing
and mixing).
You can get an early taste of the music by downloading
this mp3 -- a medley of clips from the following tracks:
1) Rig Root
2) Cajun Stomp
3) Black Mountain Aire
4) Boiler House
5) Season of Joy
6) Last Old Dollar
If you'd like to purchase the CD, see the General Store on this web site.
